Fil-German big man Christian Standhardinger leads four changes in the Gilas Pilipinas roster for their virtual must-win game against Iran in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers fifth window on Monday, December 3 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Standhardinger will replace Stanley Pringle, who scored 29 points in a gallant loss to Kazakhstan last Friday, in the naturalized player spot.

With their suspensions done, Jayson Castro William and Troy Rosario will rejoin the national squad too. Arwind Santos will make his Gilas debut.

Seldom used in 2013 FIBA Asia, Zhigulin serves revenge on Gilas five years later

Five years ago inside a packed Mall of Asia Arena, Gilas Pilipinas humiliated Kazakhstan, 88-58 in the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship quarter-finals, a game now famously known as the ‘Gary David game’ as the sharpshooter nailed 22 points including 4-of-6 from three-point land in that contest.

Kazakhstan, then a mix of veterans and youngsters, bowed out of that tournament in one of the worst ways possible.

FIBA WC: Zhigulin powers Kazakhstan in shocking upset of Gilas

Star Alexandr Zhigulin fired 30 points to power Kazakhstan to a gutsy 92-88 win over Gilas Pilipinas on Friday, November 30 in the FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers fifth window at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Zhigulin shot an efficient 10-of-16 shooting including 6-of-12 from three-point area and added seven rebounds as his side held on for the stunning upset victory in what was mostly a back-and-forth duel.
