Abueva and Almazan out of Gilas Pilipinas Player Pool

Gilas Coach Chot Reyes dropped Calvin Abueva and Raymond Almazan from the Gilas Pilipinas Player Pool for the 2nd leg of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers. Abueva and Almazan missed their 3rd consecutive Gilas practice.

Both Abueva and Almazan were part of the 1st leg of the Asian Qualifiers last November 2017 where Gilas Pilipinas won against Japan and Chinese-Taipei.

After the Gilas practice last January 22, Coach Chot Reyes said “The reason why we’re dropping Abueva and Almazan for the second window is because they haven’t showed up. It’s already our third practice at hindi pa sila nagpapakita. It’s simply a matter of disinterest. I guess they’re not interested so we have to move on we can’t wait for those guys.”

Gilas Pilipinas player pool now down to 13 players: Jayson Castro, Kiefer Ravena, Kevin Alas, Jiovani Jalalon, Roger Pogoy, Matthew Wright, Allein Maliksi, Gabe Norwood, Carl Bryan Cruz, Mac Belo, Troy Rosario, Japeth Aguilar, and June Mar Fajardo.

Gilas will face Australia on February 22 in Melbourne and against Japan on February 25 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

We. Need abueva as an enforcer in the court. Almazan is good backup to june mar. Chot should re-analyze whats good for the gilas.

Abueva’sa savage deportment and uncouth behavior — makakainis mangatyaw! — are not suitable for international play. Let him do his thing in his Pampanga ‘hood.

GOOD MOVE! If indeed they missed 3 successive practices, they should be dumped on the wayside and let them rot there. Almazan and Abueva are not even BIG contributors to Gilas, as shown in their last stint. But even if they approximate Caloy Loysaga and Bogs Adornado, if they have no interest or commitment Beside, Abueva’s game and deportment are only suited for sandlot inter-colors. And Almazan rates only 5 on an international scale of 10… — TO HELL WITH THEM! GO, GILAS, GO! YOU ARE NOT MISSING ANYTHNG!

Practice is a must.. khit nga cguro anong team even ung USA team kailangan everytime kumpleto ang players pra hndi magkapaan on the court pra maiwasan din ang turnovers.. example nlng ung year na cla MJ, MAGIC, BIRD, DREXLER, BARKLEY ang representative ng USA team(THE DREAM TEAM), on practice kalaban nila sa tune-up ung USA team(college division) cla webber, grant hill dun ngalit ung coach ng DREAM TEAM dahil tinalo sila ng mga bata samantalang sabi dti sa DREAM TEAM “the team that can’t be lose” tapos gnun ang ending aftr 40mins. ng game.. at cmula nun mganda na itinkno ng team nila and the way panu ung connection sa bawat isa.. hindi malayo matalo nila every team kung from start ng training hanggang matapos lahat sabay sabay naglalaro, sabay lahat kung mag practice.. opinion ko lng po ito, kayo na po bhla umintindi kng anu gusto ko iparating lalo na sa mga players natin.. good day GODBLESS
