Batang Gilas beat Japan, enter Semis and qualified for FIBA U17 World Cup

Batang Gilas defeated Japan, 72-70 in the quarterfinals of the 2018 FIBA U16 Asian Championship held in Foshan, China.

Kai Sotto led Batang Gilas with 28 points, 21 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks while RC Calimag made the game-winning basket and finished with 15 points.

Chikara Tanaka led Japan with 17 points including a big three-point shot to tie the game at 70-all but he also missed the game-tying basket at the buzzer.

Batang Gilas outscored Japan, 25-12 in the 3rd quarter but Japan came back in the 4th but fell short.

Philippines is now in the semifinals and also already qualified for the FIBA U17 World Cup. Batang Gilas will face China in the semifinals on April 7, 6pm.
