  2. James Binco says:

I watched a lot of international basketball for the past years, and I think this is the best line up for the Philippines to compete in world stage, not only in Asia/Oceania.

PG: Jordan Clarkson/Jayson Castro William or Matthew Wright
SG: Calvin Abueva/Ray Parks or Marcio Lassiter
    SF: Gabe Norwood/Kobe Paras/Troy Rosario/
PF: Japeth Aguilar/Raymond Almazan/Christian Standhardinger or AJ Edu
C : Junmar Fajardo, Andray Blatche

    Why these players?
PG: If FIBA will allow JC to play for the PH, defintely JC will be a shoo-in at the #1 position. Jason as we all know is in his 30’s now, he will be good for 1 or 2 more FIBA tournament, and he’s done. Philippines cannot compete at world stage if they will have a point guard below 6’2, they should accept this. They have no match against Australia or New Zealand. Matthew Wright is a legit 6’0 player. He got size, strenght to match up with the international players. I am not saying Romeo or Castro are not good players, but size wise, I do not think they can match up with international players especially with the likes of Australia or New Zealand.

SG: Calvin’s relentless energy, and “patay kung patay” attitude, cannot be discounted. At any given day, he will not back off from anyone in court. He is the “PUSO” of this team. Calvin just need to be sharp at three point area to be deadly. Marcio and Ray will be battling for the last spot at 2 position. We need pure shooters on SG position.

SF: Gabe is still the best defender the Philippines on this position. He can match up with tall players with any team. Kobe Paras will be his successor on this position. We need tall players like Kobe and Troy who can defend transition, one on one, and the perimeter.

PF: Raymond Almazan showed a great game last SEABA 2017. He is a type of player that can defend the post, perimeter and take care of the RIM. Long, and agile player like Japeth and Christian. Now, why I put AJ Edu here? AJ Edu will be the next big thing of PH Basketball. At very young age of 18, he should be expose to international basketball at this level. He is NBA material.

C: No brainer, Junmar and Andray.
