Ming Ming Brothers: The Terrence Romeo & Bobby Ray Parks tandem
The Philippines’ men’s national basketball team ‘Gilas Pilipinas’, together with the coaching staff led by Coach Tab Baldwin, recently went to Greece, Turkey and Italy for their 17-day training camp in preparation for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which will start tomorrow, July 5 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The national team includes the ‘Dota Boys’ Marc Pingris and June Mar Fajardo, named after the computer game Dota which the two love to play. Pingris and Fajardo were roommates again in this out of town trip.
The Gilas fans also drew attention to the formation of a new tandem in the name of Terrence Romeo and Bobby Ray Parks, who refer to themselves as the ‘Ming Ming Brothers’.
During a conversation with Terrence, he told me that they branded themselves as ‘Ming Ming Brothers’ because he and Parks idolize Babalu and Redford White. These comedians have a popular ‘Ming! Ming! Ming!’ scene in the film ‘I do! I die! (D’yos ko ‘day!)’.
The explosive tandem of Parks and Romeo was remarkable during the Gilas Pilipinas’ tuneup game versus Iran last June 8 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum when they defeated the tough team with a score of 81-70 at the end of the game. Terrence contributed 12 points on the scoreboard while Ray Parks finished solid with 11 points and 5 assists.
One of the main reasons that the coaches conduct this out-of-town training is to build and strengthen the camaraderie of all the team members. Another reason is to keep away from the distractions in the city, and to skip the insane traffic in Metro Manila.
Just like Pingris and Fajardo, Terrence Romeo and Ray Ray Parks happened to be roommates in this Gilas Pilipinas Euro Training Camp.
Let’s see what else these two rising stars have to offer as Gilas Pilipinas faces France on July 5, and will go head-to-head with New Zealand on July 6 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Support our very own Gilas Pilipinas players! For the love of the game. For the love of our country.
