New Smart Gilas Coach Chot Reyes
Chot Reyes of Talk N Text will get another shot at handling the National Basketball Team, this time with Smart Gilas, or sometimes called Smart Gilas 2.0. Coach Rajko Toroman ( who is now an SMC Consultant) handled the 1st Smart Gilas team and placed 4th in the FIBA Asia Championship last year.
Coach Chot will handle the new Smart Gilas program which has a new goal which is to gain one of the top three slots in the 2013 FIBA-Asia Championship which will qualify the team to the 2014 FIBA World Championship.

Well apparently he already handled the national team before right? So tingin ko tama na, I’ll still go for Rajko Toroman if I were Manny Pangilinan.
Basketball is a game for big men. If youre sending a school boy size players youre heading again for another defeat. NBA players has got the size and athletic ability and youll be facing them in world championships aside from China, Iran and Jordan. You need the services of Greg Slaughter, Javale Mcgee, Ghian Chiu, Japheth Aguilar, Junemar Fajardo and Marcus Douhit aside from the fast players weve got at the PBA.
I would love to see coach Chot’s style in the international ring. Run and gun, defensive with perimeter shooters, plus defense and strategy. Go Coach!!
I just have some adjustments with his recent line up
We need some more height but not to sacrifice the speed and the perimter shooting. So I will go with Dilinger, Baguio, Mercado, Lutz, Washington, Aguilar over Cabagnot, Tenorio, Yap, and Villanueva.
Sad to say, even if Caguiao is for an international calliber, he seems to be slower now compare to his prime.

Basketball is a game for big guys. You cannot win world championships by sending centers at 6’7″, they could very well play as power forwards in the likes of Kelly Williams and Sonny Thoss. You’ve got to get guys like Greg Slaughter 7’0, Ghian Chiu 6’11, Japheth Aguilar and Junemar Fajardo. You have to study the line ups of Spain, Yugoslavia, Croatia, Argentina,Brazil,USA at China and Iran na lang. You’ll not get anywhere if you have a small line up. Plus you have to get the best shooters in the land. I remember the games with China, Japheth Aguilar was never used and whats the result?
nope…basketball is a game of athleticism…but our team is lack of height and athleticism..
Ang-liliit naman ng line-up ng SMART GILAS 2.0!!!! Ano na naman ba yan?! Ang-lalaki at matatangkad ang magiging kalaban nila at hindi rin ito makukupad tumakbo..Tapos talo pa tayo sa tangkad..Sa rebound pa lang obvious na talagang talo na tayo. Sa second chance point tayo babanatan ng katangkaran ng mga center player nila..Ang masakit, hindi pa consistent ang laro ng mga ibang napiling players..

CHOT REYES is a HOT TEMPER COACH. WHO DOESN’T THINK OF WHAT HE”S DOING. HE ALWAYS ARGUE TO THE REFEREE wich is a BAD for FIBA RULES. it takes 2 free throw and a ball position for a technical. just like what happen in IRAN GAME several years ago. when the phil almost got AWAY againts IRAN. but CHOT make some NONSENSE MOVE againts the REFEREE in just 30+ seconds in the GAME. and that cost them a CHAMPIONSHIP….. napaka sayang ng PERA ng TAO at ni MANY PANGILINAN… (one thing MVP: 3 GUARD GAME SUCKS in the bid GAME)… philippines can’t win with 3 guard.}
