magagaling ang pinili ni chot reyes, kaso bkit po wala c chris luts at jarid dillinger sa pool, we know magaling silang wing man.

    • jan says:

yes good, but not better or even best.

    • Hamza says:

Dapat Kasali si dondon hontiveros pati sila japeth at marcus douthit , panget ng lineup , puro guard ung mga pinili walang rebound at depensa .

      • Russ says:

C’mon now coach,Consider these guys. (We must look for intensity and steadiness)

From Talk ‘N Text: Jimmy Alapag, Jayson Castro, Ranidel De Ocampo, Larry Fonacier, Ryan Reyes, Kelly Williams
*I would like to suggest to keep Japeth Aguilar in the line up instead of Ryan Reyes who may nearing to his retirement coz of his injuries.

From Alaska: LA Tenorio and Sonny Thoss
*These two guys isn’t really playing well today in the PBA, Maybe Cyrus Baguio, He has the paasion to play for the flag.

From B-Meg: James Yap and Marc Pingris.
*James Yap has never proven He can perform in international competition, on/off in his plays in the PBA but you made a good choice in Marc Pingris.Maybe Simon would be a better choice.

From Petron: Alex Cabagnot and Arwind Santos.
*Good choice, although these two guys isn’t playing well right now, I think they’ll be motivated once again donning the country’s colors. maybe we could consider also Chris Lutz or Dondon.

From Powerade: Gary David and Marcio Lassiter
Good Choice also, thumbs up just don’t let Gary throw the ball often.

From Rain or Shine: Gabe Norwood
Not living up to his full potential but very good, Take also Jeff Chan.

    From Ginebra: Enrico Villanueva
*I’d like to give Caguioa one more try or Alein, they play the perimeter very well, that’s what we want more perimeter plays not the PBA style.

    My Final Line up:
    1. Jimmy Alapag/Jason Castro/Alex Cabagnot or *Mike Cortez
    2. Gary David/Larry Fonacier/Marc Caguioa or Alein Maliksi/P.J. Simon
    3. Arwind Santos/Japeth Aguilar/Marc Pingris/Chris Lutz or Cio Lassiter
    4. Kelly Williams/Ranidel De Ocampo
    5. Marcus Douthit/Junmar Fajardo.

*the reason I vote Mike Cortez is that He is a cerebral player, We need someone who can matchup with Daghles, Jimmy, Jason and Alex isn’t in the level of Sam.

  4. dennis San Pedro says:

To be a powerfull team kailangan yung may height atleast 6’5″ at yung point guard kailangan mga 2 o 3 lang at yung mahusay…sa international kahit napakahusay nung point guard mo sa PBA kung ang babantayan mo sa labas ay 6’5 or more eh di rin uubra.Kahit sabihin mo na mahusay si alapag wla ring binatbat yun>>>>sinu ba sa PBA yung may height na 6’5 at mahusay na magdala ngbola????dapat chot si japeth nde mawala sa 16 man pool mo ksi malaking bagay yun>>>dapat concentrate ka sa malalaking player at nde sa mga maliliit>>>kunin mo yung may shooting capability na malaki kesa sa mga bobol na player>>>>You have to think about enrico villanueva, castro, lassiter, pringis, alex cabagnot>>>>dami kayang mas malaki at malakas ang confident sa hardcourt…..

  5. sesay says:

Please involve the fans in selecting the players not just the coaches wishes, we watch the PBA to see the players perform beyond expectations in international plays. I think the PBA owe it from us fans that we be involved thru voting who must be in the lineup,
In fairness to Chot, He deserves a second chance and all of the the past coaches of the NT but we should learn from our mistakes that only the coaches and others within the league chooses the players, we fans want to see the NT succeed and if they didn’t reach the goal, you will not be blamed since we are the ones who have chosen the lineup.

    • Russ says:

Yes i agree po dapat po pakingan din po or bigyan ng karapan bumuto ang mga funs kong sino ang dapat na karapat dapat para sa ating team Pilipinas para akin ilang kelangan natin ng mga big man kasi sa international competation malalaki ang kalaban natin so pag dating sa basketball iba na talaga ang matangkad so please Coach Chot
      subukan nyo nmn kunin sila

      Japeth Aguilar

      Fajardo

      Slaughter

      Chris Ellis

    My vote would be:
From Talk ‘N Text: Jimmy Alapag, Jayson Castro, Ranidel De Ocampo, Larry Fonacier, Japeth Aguilar,Kelly Williams
    From Alaska: Cyrus Baguio
    From B-Meg: Marc Pingris
From Petron: Chris Lutz and Arwind Santos
From Powerade: Gary David and Marcio Lassiter
From Rain or Shine: Gabe Norwood
From Ginebra: Mike Cortez (cerebral type and good size to match big PG like Sam Daghles)
Rudy Hatfield or Willie Wilson (these guys can defend and are Hustle players-we lack this type of players in previous NTs)
From Meralco: Mac Cardona (very effective perimeter game)

Center Prospects aside from Douthit: Junmar Fajardo

Why was Japeth not included in the line up of Chot, you see he has perimeter shooting good rebounding and excellent in blocking shots, he is also mobile/agile at 6’9″, his mere presence in the paint can pose threat, his plays suits international plays. I can’t beleive this

  8. Dave Nalugon says:

Where is Asi? where is Jv? Why Cabagnot And Santos in the national team squad? The team needs someone who can contribute..Coach Reyes has to open his eyes..

  9. Boom Mcfield says:

Yes, kailangan palakihin ng konti without sacrificing the speed and the shooting. With the recent line up, I think we have lots of point guard. Although this is good as Coach Chot wants the team to run but still we need to face the fact that we still need a little height to defend and rebound. We may stick with Alapag and Castro for the point guard spot backed up by Norwood. And I would prefer Baguio over Tenorio and Lutz over Cabagnot. Moreover, I think Dilinger can give a better impact than Ryan Reyes. Washington should be included over James Yap. And lastly, there is a need for additional big men. Doutit and Thoss are the legitimate centers but we still need power forward to help Williams and de Ocampo

Go Coach Chot, go Smart Gilas 2.0!!

    Boom

  10. frd says:

bakit wala c japeth.tapos dapat isali si jay wash

    • kuya_boy_sotto says:

knowing chot, he does’nt rely much on towers.. if u will look closely on TNT, he hardly uses japeth.. how can the big guy gain momentum or even self confidence if you would just give him around 3 to 5 mins of playing time per game?.. what he doesn’t realizes is that when it comes to international competition (basketball), height is one big factor.. he can defeat a bunch of asian teams with his “preferred lineup”, but he have to admit that they are not of a match against regional giants such as china, iran, and korea.. what more against eurpeans and americans? i’m not mocking the talents of our so called “professional cagers”, but they are only good or even best against other countries with “little players”.. i think what he needs to do in our national team is develope the abilities of big guys for they can be great help in the future.. why should he stick with a lineup with an average height of 6′ 3″?.. mnaybe it’s about ime to make some changes..

      • fudiyo says:

i’m ammenable w/ your assesment. i wonder y they again give the coaching job to chot reyes e anjan naman si toroman. this line up is too small when it comes to international competition. ang feeling siguro ni chot e PBA tournament ang sasalihan nila. perhaps he needs helps to wake him up…baka kasi nananaginip pa e paki gising nlang bka mabangungot

        • Russ says:

Tama po kayo we need more Big man like Marcus Daughit,Junmar Fajardo,Japeth Aguilar,Slaughter,

      • Russ says:

Yes Correct po dapat talaga sa international competation we really need an big man i vote for
        Aguilar
        Slaughter
        Fajardo
        Marcus

PG: Alex Cabagnot, L.A Tenorio,Solomon Mercado,
        SG:Dondon Honteveros,James Yup, Chris Ellis
        PF:Matt Rosser ,kelly Willams
        SF:Chris Lutz,Marcio Lassiter,
        C: Marcus,Slaughter,Aguilar,Fajardo

    • kuya_boy_sotto says:

larry Fonacier is a good addition to the team with his outside bomb. Mark Pingris is very good defender inside the paint, Ofcourse David will surely make an impact. Goodluck gys!!

  25. AR says:

    if i where to choose..
i would remove, Gabe Norwood(wala naman nagagawa offence and defence) exchange Joe DeVance (height and shooting outside), LA tenorio or Alex Cabagnot (too many Point guards) exchange one of them with PJ Simon (consistent player). Ryan Reyes change to Chris Lutz or KG Canaleta.

  26. ed says:

hindi priority ang tnt dahil this is a national team not a PBA team. it needs to be fair for all the players and team for good performance. thats the team that will make the whole philippines proud of. thats the team that will bring the trophy and gold medal

  27. joheike says:

    • Russ says:

Coaching staff of Smart Gilas team Pilipinas especially Coach shot Please subukan niyo po kunin sila japeth aguilar , junmar fajardo , at Greg Slaughter, Malaki po and maitutulong nila team
      especially sa rebound

      salamat po

  28. vincent says:

if the GILAS will still PLAY 3 GUARD GAME. there is NO LIFE to the PHILIPPINE BASKETBALL. 3 guard game KILLS the chance for gilas last FIBA.
please coach CHOT, STOP PLAYING YOUR GAME, it not effective as it was in the PBA. international GAME is much stronger and taller competitors gilas can’t play such as 3 guard game and a 6’6 with 6’8… GILAS must PUT GREG SLAUGHTER, DOUGHTIT, AGUILAR, WASHINGTON, TOSS. enrico villanueva is TOO SMALL for a center. ouch! you are just WASTING the MONEY of the FILIPINO’s.

  29. ggmoves says:

mtgal nang wlang laro si jay wash kya pass muna xa d pa nbabalik dti nyang laru..

  30. Boom Mcfield says:

And there you go…we have now 36 responses and counting..Malayo pa ang laro, pero magandang makitang naiinvolve ang marami sa usapang Smart Gilas 2. Ofcourse, we are talking about the most popular sports in the philippines with the most popular names sa PBA..Anyways, maganda ang mga punto natin, lalo na sa sinasabing consistency at perimeter players.

With the recent line up, we may say Gary David is a sure Gilas player (perimeter shooter), consistent and a shooter. Kung dun naman sa sinasabing may napatunayan, I can see na si Jimmy Alapag ang may napatunayan na. And with the previous stint ng talk n text with imports as big as 7 feet, I would say Jason Castro is a steady player as well..May napatunayan na rin si Kelly and Norwood..Kung naliliitan tayo sa point guard spot, we can also add in Sol Mercado, Norwood and Dilinger..who can defend sa mga bigger point ng kalaban..So sa number 2 spot tayo…there’ll be a good debate between James Yap and Cyrus Baguio. Hindi kasi naging consistent si James sa previous stint nya sa FIBA eh….So we can have Garry and Baguio…mmmm, we need a shooter who can defend > Chris Lutz, I will add Dilinger sa number 2 spot..and considering Caguiao has proven himself this conference, pede pa rin natin syang idagdag sa number 2 spot. Hindi nga lang natin alam kung gaano pa sya kalakas 2 years from now. Sa number 3 spot naman, gusto ko sana yung height ni Arwin Santos at ang kayang defending prowess, pero with the last stint nya medyo inconsistent din,..So maybe we could have Washington for this spot considering mas consistent si Washigton sa 3 point area and sa perimeter..Orcourse, di mawawala si Williams who has proven himself as well..Medyo may konting question kay Ranidel, pero we can give him another chance (sana di magbakasyon)Good addition si Larry Fonacier sa number 3 spot..Sa number 4 naman, I can see Thoss and Pighris as a good defender/rebounder…sa number 5, we need another 6’9” to 7 footer Monster sa loob like Denzel Monster Bowles para may makatulong si Doughtit..

so here is my final line up:

    Alapag/Castro/Norwood
    David/Dilinger/Fonacier/Lutz
    Washington/Williams/De Ocampo
    Thoss/Pingris
    Doughtit/Big men (?)

  31. HuPaW says:

  43. Boom Mcfield says:

    Good news? Bad news?

James Yap is out, together with Pingris, Cabagnot, Arwind Santos and Lassiter.

And the new addition to the roster: Jeff Chan, Sol Mercado, Casio, Dilinger and Baracael IN.

    What can I say?

Bad News: I trully hope San Mig Corp will let Pingris play for the National team. I can let go of James Yap, Cabagnot, Santos and Lassiter, but not a defensive specialist as Pingris.

Good News: Athletic and Versatile player Dillinger was added to the roster. Watching him play at the PBA today, he has surely develop his shooting touch and hi is one of the few big guys who can dribble and penetrate. He is taller and much quicker than James Yap and is a dependable defensive player as well.

Another good addition is Sol Mercado. I will choose Sol over Cabagnot because of the height and built descrepancy. Sol is a good finisher can defend better with big guards from the opponent.

For the wing spot, I have to choose jeff Chan over Lassiter. This streak shooting guard will help the team spread the floor as he is a gunner for the three point area, complimenting the likes of larry Fonancier.

With young Casio and Baracael, no offense but they still are not for International Calliber (yet).

Arwind Santos can be replace by perimeter player like Jay Washington and since Pingris is out of the roster, I will choose Raymundo. Raymundo may not be playing the same as his last FIBA stint, but I believe, this trully blooded Filipino has a heart of a champion.

If Raymundo is not available, we can have Hatfield or Peek or even Taulava who can give bodies inside the paint.

    Just my two cents

This should be the right smart gilas line-up:

    Point Guard:
Jimmy Alapag – A true point guard who can set plays for his team-mate.
Gabe Norwood – If we need a height for a point guard.
Jason Castro – who can slash the paint to create space for his team-mate.
Willie Miller – A mix of castro and alapag.
(optional) Ryan Reyes – defense oriented guard, but needs to learn the point guard position.

    Shooting Guard:
James Yap – shooting is what he does best.
Gary David – slasher and finally a shooter, but needs to learn the art of passing.
Dondon Hontiveros – catch and shoot guard, one of the best defensive player for his position.

    Small Forward:
Jay Washington – Athletic and have the touch from outside, which a small forward must have.
Joe Devance – like jay wash, devance have the touch from outside, and a 6’7 that can handle the ball
Japeth Aguilar – Why force japeth to play the power forward and center position? his skills will be maximize if he is playing the 3 spot. but needs to develop his shooting from perimeter and the arc.
(optional) Kelly Williams – same with japeth he is best suit for SF position, he is optional because of his inconsistency and he always get the nerves during clutch games, especially international games.
(optional) Danny Seigle – If he still have the legs to play.

    Power Forward:
Ranidel De Ocampo – has the post moves and a shot from perimeter, and a drop pass that a power forward must have.
Sonny Thoss – can play the power forward and center position, but with his height of 6’7, he can not match the the center opponent, best thing is to send him to play the 4 spot.
Kerby Raymundo – same with Ranidel De Ocampo.

    Center:
Marcus Douthit or Javale Mcgee – whoever is available, center with the height against other opponents.
Rafi Reavis – A born center that can play defense, but needs to develop his scoring skills and his body against bulky opponent.
Yancy De Ocampo – height with an outside shot, but needs to develop his defensive skills and athleticism.
(optional) Asi Taulava – If he still have the legs to play
(optional) Greg Slaughter – A 7 footer that is not naturalized, But still needs so many things to develop.

    Coaching Staff:
Tim cone – triangle offense his a best tool for international games
Franz Pumaren / Aric Del Rosario / Norman black – succesful coaches in amateur rules in collegiate leagues which almost the same with FIBA rules.
Rajko Toroman – The man which is exposed in international leagues.
Yeng Guaio – The coach that is a player improver/developer.
Chot Reyes – Coach with so many critics, but still we must admit chot is a coach that knows how to handle a lots of stars in his team.

I hope this comment can give an idea for the smart gilas creator.
This will increase our chance for international games.
