New Smart Gilas Coach Chot Reyes

Chot Reyes of Talk N Text will get another shot at handling the National Basketball Team, this time with Smart Gilas, or sometimes called Smart Gilas 2.0. Coach Rajko Toroman ( who is now an SMC Consultant) handled the 1st Smart Gilas team and placed 4th in the FIBA Asia Championship last year.

Coach Chot will handle the new Smart Gilas program which has a new goal which is to gain one of the top three slots in the 2013 FIBA-Asia Championship which will qualify the team to the 2014 FIBA World Championship.

The Champion of this tournament will represent Asia in the 2012 London Olympic Games while the 2nd and 3rd placers will have a slot in the 2012 FIBA-Olympic Qualifier along with teams from other zones for another chance to be included in the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Smart Gilas will not play in PBA 3rd Conference, taps 4 PBA players

Smart Gilas coach Rajko Toroman confirmed that Smart Gilas Pilipinas will not play in the upcoming PBA Governors Cup starting June 2011. Smart Gilas will join the Jones Cup in August.

Toroman also requested 4 players from the PBA to help them in their quest for an Olympic slot this September in the FIBA-Asia Championships. The 4 PBA players are Jimmy Alapag, Asi Taulava, Kelly Williams and Dondon Hontiveros.
