Kiefer Ravena officially added to Gilas Pilipinas player pool
After a few practice sessions with Gilas 4.0, Kiefer Ravena was officially added to the Gilas Pilipinas player pool for the 2016 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament as confirmed by Coach Tab Baldwin.

The Passion of Pingris
The backlash was immediate and predictably unpleasant, vile even.
The hero had turned heel; the patriot, now a traitor.
The criticisms were harsh, and largely uncalled for, really. Yet Marc Pingris took them all in—the spiteful comments that he had sold his basketball soul for money, the unflattering insinuations that he now loves the hand that feeds him more than his country, and the foul accusations that he has turned his back on flag and country—like the upstanding man he has become.
Through all the bashing, Marc Pingris stayed silent.
Hontiveros is back into action for Gilas
A pained look crossed the face of Kevin Braswell, the playing coach of the New Zealand team when Dondon Hontiveros, hot as fire swished in three triples in an overtime game in the 37th William Jones Cup held in Taipei a few weeks ago.
Hontiveros is now a four-time National team member as he makes it into the the 12-man Gilas line-up of coach Tab Baldwin, who’ll represent the country in the upcoming 2015 FIBA Asia Championship.

In basketball they say that height is might. But not in the case of Terrence Romeo. In the recently concluded MVP Cup and Jones Cup, Romeo proved that in basketball, height does not matter. In spite of his size, he stood tallest among the others because of his quickness, talent, and of course, his big heart. He was the team’s go-to-guy especially when the game was on the line. He showed everyone that he can put matters into his own hands. Everytime he would be fielded in, the crowd would be on their feet, waiting something spectacular from this diminutive point guard.
The Beast’s Road to FIBA Asia
Calvin Abueva, the 6’2 forward who is a product of Angeles, Pampanga, has been making a name for himself in Philippine basketball, which earned him the nickname “The Beast”. In his college days with the San Sebastian Stags, Abueva posted mind-boggling numbers with averages of 20.4 points, 14.9 rebounds, and 4.9 assists in his collegiate career. Because of this, he earned the reputation of being the “Triple King Crown” as he led the NCAA in all three of these categories. With this, he also bagged the NCAA MVP in its 87th season. Another milestone he achieved was being part of the NCAA Mythical Five three times, specifically in the 85th, 86th and 87th seasons.
Still Rock Solid
Down big against the long, talented, and athletic Wellington Saints in the 2015 Jones Cup, Gilas Pilipinas coach Tab Baldwin called upon his unique mix of young blood and old hounds. The young guns—Calvin Abueva and Jayson Castro—provided an intoxicating blend of end-to-end hustle, catch-me-if-you-can speed, and coast-to-coast drives. One of the old hounds, veteran Dondon Hontiveros, caught fire from beyond the arc.
But it was the other old hound, the oldest of them all, who started the comeback. Asi Taulava, the six-foot-ten, forty-two-year-old, blond-haired mastodon dug deep and turned back the hands of time as he held his own against the tall, athletic, and much younger frontline of the Saints. “Kuya Asi,” as he is affectionately called now by members of the Gilas squad, provided a jolt of energy and a steadying calm. He then connected on timely undergoal stabs, grabbed important rebounds, kept loose balls alive, set hard screens, and just plain sacrificed his already worn-out body on both ends.
All that from a man who had every reason to say “No” to flag and country.
