Gilas Pilipinas engaged in a competitive overtime battle but fell ultimately short against Angola, 81-84 as they concluded Group D first round action in the 2019 FIBA World Cup in Foshan, China.
CJ Perez forced extension with a huge triple late in regulation, but it was Angola’s Yanick Moreira and who kept his poise and delivered the win for the African side.
For Kiefer Ravena, business is always unfinished
As if fate had it designed, Kiefer Ravena got a steal and scored on a fast break lay-up in the second quarter of Gilas Pilipinas’ second closed-door tune-up game against Australian club team Adelaide 36ers inside the Meralco Gym seconds after he checked in an official basketball game for the first time in a year and half following his FIBA-meted suspension.
And just like that, close to 18 months worth of guilt, disappointment, anger, dread, and a lot more emotions rolled into his mind vanished as new chapter in his famed and magnified basketball career unfolded that night.
Kiefer Ravena is back after end of FIBA Suspension
After an 18-month suspension, Kiefer Ravena will get to play basketball again and will play for Gilas Pilipinas in the 2nd tune-up game against the Adelaide 36ers of Australia tonight, August 25 at the Meralco Gym.
After Gilas final 12 inclusion, Thirdy Ravena to make the most out of seniors debut
Gilas Pilipinas recently named their 12-man roster for their upcoming game against Qatar on February 21 (Feb 22, 12 midnight Manila Time) in the sixth window of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
Naturalized big man Andray Blatche headlines the list, along with mainstays Gabe Norwood, Japeth Aguilar, Jayson Castro, and Troy Rosario. Completing the cast are Marcio Lassiter, Poy Erram, Scottie Thompson, Mark Barroca, Raymond Almazan, and Ateneo Blue Eagle Thirdy Ravena, the only amateur player to make the last cut.
FIBA bans Kiefer Ravena for 18 months
Kiefer Ravena will be ineligible to play for Gilas Pilipinas in any FIBA Tournaments for 18 months after “4-methylhexan-2-amine”, “1,3-dimethylbutylamine”, and “higenamine” (all three are banned substances in the list of the World Anti-Doping Agency) were found in his test samples conducted by FIBA after the Gilas Pilipinas game against Japan last February 25.
