Gilas a win away from World Cup qualification process after beating Vietnam
Gilas Pilipinas trounced Vietnam, 107-52 on Wednesday, May 17 in the 2017 SEABA Championships at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City to move a step away from the qualification process for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
Matthew Wright’s 19 points on five triples led five players in double-digits for Gilas, which shall now face likewise undefeated Indonesia in the final day of the tournament tomorrow, May 18.
‘Happy and excited’ Almazan treasuring Gilas experience
Raymond Almazan is treasuring the experiencing of playing for Gilas Pilipinas.
The Rain or Shine forward will be making his maiden stint for the national basketball team when the Philippines takes on Myanmar in the opener of the 2017 SEABA Championships here in Manila, and Almazan said he is “happy and excited” to be part of the roster.
“One of my dreams makapaglaro sa bayan natin, i-represent yung country natin. Ang mahalaga dito yung nasa harap ng jersey mo eh,” Almazan said.

Raymond Almazan was named MVP with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Senator Manny Pacquiao scored 9 points for Team Stalwarts. Ian Sangalang led Team Greats with 14 points.

Raymond Almazan and Jericho Cruz Injury Update
Raymond Almazan out for 2 weeks due to a sprained ankle he suffered during practice before the Rain or Shine vs San Miguel Beer Game 3 while Jericho Cruz suffered a left knee injury in Game 3 and no timetable yet on his return.
The good news is Paul Lee seems to be back in his old form scoring 18 points in Game 3. PBA Semifinals between Rain or Shine Elasto Painters vs San Miguel Beermen Game 4 tonight at 7pm. Who do you think will win?
