Statement of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas on the Incident During the Philippines vs Australia Game

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) apologizes to Filipino basketball fans and to the basketball community for the incident that occurred during last night’s game. As hosts, we regret having breached the bounds of traditional Filipino hospitality. As the national team representing flag and country, we likewise extend our apologies to the Filipino people.

Alfredo Panlilio has replaced Manuel V Pangilinan as SBP President while Senator Sonny Angara was named Chairman and Congressman Robbie Puno as Vice Chairman of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas or SBP created a search and screening committee for the next Gilas Pilipinas Head Coach composed of the following representatives from SBP, PBA and PBA D-League:
-SBP vice chairman Ricky Vargas
-PBA commissioner Chito Salud
-PBA chairman Patrick Gregorio

SBP President Manuel V. Pangilinan has been elected to the International Basketball Federation’s (FIBA) Central Board, MVP will be part of the FIBA Board from 2014 until 2019. Let us also welcome, New FIBA President Horatio Muratore from Argentina.

Congratulations MVP and also to Dr. Raul Canlas (Medical Commission) and Atty. Aga Francisco (Legal Commission) who will also be part of FIBA.
