Smart Gilas vs Qatar Game Cancelled

The Smart Gilas Pilipinas vs Qatar National Team which was scheduled tonight at 7pm at San Juan Arena was cancelled due to injuries of some Qatar players.

The team will leave on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 for Wuhan, China and the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship will start on September 15.

Smart Gilas skips Doha Tournament

Smart Gilas Pilipinas will not play in the 4-Nation Doha Tournament in Qatar due to injuries to Chris Tiu, JV Casio, Mark Barroca and the extension of the Talk N Text vs Petron PBA Finals to Game 7. 5 players from Talk N Text will reinforce Smart Gilas and they need time to rest from the grueling series vs Petron.

The five players from Talk N Text that will join Smart Gilas in the FIBA Asia Championships in September:
- Jimmy Alapag
- Kelly Williams
- Ranidel de Ocampo
- Larry Fonacier
- Ryan Reyes

No word yet on which tournament/exhibition games that they will play before the FIBA Tournament.

- Smart Gilas had no answer for Iranian-NBA center Hamed Haddadi with 36 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks.
- Marcus Douthit led Smart Gilas with 16 points
- Mark Barroca filling in for the injured JV Casio contributed 10 points but was also injured in the 4th quarter
- Marcio Lassiter was the only other Smart Gilas player in double figures with 10 points
- Iran led in rebounding, 44-21
- With the loss, Philippines will now play for 3rd place against home team, Chinese-Taipei at 5pm
- South Korea will battle Iran for the Jones Cup Championship tomorrow at 7pm

- With the win, Philippines advances to the semifinal around against Iran tomorrow at 7pm
