19th Asiad: Gilas 3×3 campaign stopped by Korea in QFs

South Korea put an end to the Gilas Pilipinas men’s 3×3 team’s 19th Asian Games run after a slim 19-16 on Saturday in the tournament’s quarterfinals at the Deqing Geographic Information Park in China.

The Philippines fell behind big, 16-9 with only 2:46 to go as the quartet of Bismarck Lina, Janrey Pasaol, Bryan Sajonia, and Justine Sanchez had to play catch-up from that point.

Sanchez trimmed the deficit down to 18-15 with just 40 ticks left, but the squad was unable to convert more within regulation time.

Pasaol wound up with six markers while Sajonia added four points. In the qualification game to the quarterfinals, the Philippines edged Kazakhstan, 15-13 in a gripping duel.

Tied at 11 with under two minutes left, Lina scored twice in the next few possessions to make it 14-12 for Gilas with 34 seconds left.

Ramazan Samsin answered to pull within one, 14-13 before Pasaol sealed the win with a layup in the final 15 seconds.
