Gilas Pilipinas beat Iran in 1st game of Heyuan WUS Tourney

Gilas Pilipinas won their 1st game in the Heyuan WUS International Basketball Tournament as they beat Iran, 76-65. Jamie Malonzo led Philippines with 11 points.

Philippines had a slow start but AJ Edu and Rhenz Abando provided a spark off the bench as Edu finished with 9 points and 9 rebounds while Abando with 8 points, 2 rebounds and 2 blocks.

Dwight Ramos and Calvin Oftana contributed 10 points each. Roger Pogoy with 8 points while CJ Perez scored 7 points, all at the end of the 3rd quarter where Gilas Pilipinas led by as much as 19 points.

Philippines will face Senegal next on August 4, 8pm held in Guangdong, China.

This tournament is in preparation for the 2023 FIBA World Cup which starts on August 25.
