we need guys that can shoot 3 points and can slice or penetrate like marcio lassiter, arwin santos, gabe norwood. c abueva is too small kaya hindi cya nag click sa china, ok ang energy nya pero sa qualifier you will be fighting big players from europe.. ok na ang center natin like junemar at greg if allowed na cya magplay. andray blatch, ranidel and japeth ok na rin sa power forward sa small forward gabe norwood, arwin santos kasi maka pag 3 points at maka slice. c pingris hirap na pag big guys ang kalaban. sa point guard naman jayson castro and paul lee are good kasi maka pag 3 points and can penetrate. c terrence romeo is too small para sa bil guys kaya hindi din cya nag click sa china. hope this comment aabot ka tab baldwin. thanks…..

  8. romel says:

c arwin can play 2 position shooing guard and small forward dapat talaga cya e include… sa qualifier mga point guard from europe is 6’4″

Here are my analysis why I choose these players as the strongest team to beat the world’s powerhouse in basketball, redeem ourselves against the chinese as the true FIBA ASIA 2015 Champion, earn a coveted spot in the Olympics, and match up pound for pound against the best in the Olympic basketball.

Center (5): Junmar Fajardo, Greg Slaughter
The inclusion of these two big men in the national roster is “No Brainer”. Junmar is the best center in Philippine basketball right now, no doubt. He had a good performance in the last edition of FIBA World Championship and he proved that he can defend and make some damage on the offense. On the other hand, Greg coming off the bench for Junmar will provide you quality minutes. He can score definitely, run the floor and protect the basket. Greg just needs to improve his footwork, dribbling skills, gain more muscles (pure), develop his low post moves and middle range jumper/shoot and be aggressive on attacking the basket. With these two fellas manning the middle, Andray can reserve his energy on defense to be use for offense. After all, how many years or decades you see in Philippine basketball to have a 6’11 and 7’1 playing together for the national team. Imagine if these two played in the recent FIBA ASIA, I don’t think that Yi and Zhou can dominate the paint. Philippine basketball authorities should let them play in the national team (whether under FIBA U19/18/17/16) even 10 years before.

Power Forwards (4): Andray Blatche, Japeth Aguilar
We thank Andray for playing and representing our flag and country. To play with the injured foot during the FIBA Asia 2015 speaks the character of this man. Truly, color or blood is not a barometer to say “I am Filipino”. Andray will give you stretch “4”. Inside or outside, he can hit, finish! On the otherhand, Japeth Aguilar is 6’9 agile player. He can defend the post and perimeter, long arms and high leaping. What is lacking with Japeth is his dribbling skills, perimeter shooting and more muscles. You can’t teach height in basketball as they said. But if Moala Tautuaa can play for the national team, I will definitely choose him over Japeth, Marc or Calvin.

Small Forwards (3): Ranidel Ocampo, Marc Pingris, Gabe Norwood
I choose these three men at 3 positions because you need players in the international to hit the 3pts. Except for Marc, Ranidel and Gabe can definitely hit this mark. That’s why I said above if Moala can play in the national team, if I’m the coach, I consider him over Japeth, Marc or Calvin (any of these three in exchange of MT). Ranidel is a veteran, and has very good spot up jumpers and three point shot. Gabe is a very athletic, long arms, US NCAA Division 1 player, credential wise you can’t ask for more. Gabe just needs to master the three point area for him to become deadly. Marc, we all know that he will play all his heart for the country. Marc have done the national colors many times and he can make some damage on the middle as well. Marc needs to improve his perimeter and middle shot to greatly contribute on offense for the team.

Shooting Guards (2): Jordan Clarkson, Marcio Lassiter, Calvin Abueva
Perhaps the biggest revelation and excitement that Filipino fans are waiting for is the inclusion of JC#6, that purple and gold guy wearing Blue, Red and White with eight stripes of the sun! JC in the national team is “NO BRAINER”. He will definitely give an added dimension on our team offense and defense, a sure headache for the opposing team. I choose Marcio and Calvin over Jeff Chan and Dondon because Marcio and Calvin are young and strong players. They can definitely shoot the 3 ball and can defend on the other side. They can penetrate in the middle and make the zone defense horrible. Plus, Calvin is a type of player that will die for the country, Patay kung Patay, para sa bayan, Mr. Energy, Mr. Hustle! He and Marc Pingris resemble the team spirit stated on our national anthem – “Ang Mamatay ng dahil sa Iyo!” Calvin must really push himself to master the three point arc and put some muscles for him to become a REAL BEAST! You need these energy guys in a team at any given time.

Guards (1): Jason Castro, Paul Lee
Finally, the guard spot. Jason Castro William is our main man at the #1 position. The best guard in Asia and perhaps in the World. You can discount his talent on the floor. The blur will be a best combination to Jordan Clarkson. Why Paul Lee over Terrence Romeo? Simply, Paul Lee adds more height and size. Terrence is a good player and has good performance in the FIBA Asia 2015, but we need someone who is tall and can put somebody against the best guards of the world, not only in Asian level. With Paul Lee coming off the bench to replace Jason, pound for pound you we can match up and beat any best team. The only thing with Paul Lee is sometimes he loses his focus on the game, becomes complacent and looks like he lacks energy and desire to win.

The SBP together with all the stakeholders in the Philippine Basketball should really have a concrete and well define plans for the development and continuity of basketball program in the Philippines. Sending a national team at the age of 16, 17, 18 or 19 will definitely master the skills of our young talents. Sourcing for overseas talents will be also helpful and critical. After all, there are about 10 million Filipinos living and working overseas now.

Again, Let’s be thankful to PBA Governors for supporting this noble cause for the country. Let not politics and divisiveness ruin the game Millions of Filipinos dearly Love. After all we can make our country great and stand proud to anyone else in the World!

#LABAN PARA SA BAYAN# Let’s make Philippines Great!

    • JayCastro says:

Jayson castro is the best point guard in asia, but you’re dreaming to say his the best PG in the world.

      • James Binco says:

That’s why I use the word “PERHAPS”. Be polite man, maybe your dreaming not me, so read between the lines!

        • barbaro says:

Terence and paul lee is just the same height, Terrence when pressured could hit 3 points and even in pressure could play quicker and stronger ppaul lee ahhhh he is slow

        • john doe says:

Perhap is no different from wishful thinking and mindless dreaming just politely saying, nevertheless Jayson Castro is a fmarked man and a force to be reckoned with in Asian basketball..

    • Alvin Canceran says:

We have the same line up except for Pingris. Calvin should be in the small forward position w/ Ranidel and Gabe.

Shooting guard, Jordan Clarkson and Marcio Lassiter can fill this position. They, I think should be given the longest playing time because the points will be coming from them.

Point Guard musts are Jason Castro and Terrence Romeo.

For now, I only have 10 man line up. Excluded from the list are Pingris and Paul Lee and Ranidel De Ocampo. RDO, he has yet to play a game this year. I doubt he can get back his game in time. Marc Pingris’ game hasn’t really been the same since FIBA WORLD. The heart is still the same but step, jump and timing been wanting. As for Paul Lee, as evidence by his stint in the semis, his shooting is still there but the speed and no fear drives are still off. If he can’t bring the two back, this will be the reason to write him off for now. What I really like with Paul Lee is mautak siya when he drives to the basket. You can be assured 70% of the time he can foul bait and his double cross over is not a laughing matter as he has proven this to be a very effective tool for him. Terrance Romeo, has improved a lot since the last Gilas stint (confidence ans shooting wise). Playmaking still is a work in progress but should not be a problem as Clarkson can very well fill this position during offense while Romeo transitions as the shooting guard. Romeo’s a must because we generate so much fast breaks from his hussle plays. He gets a lot of steals and the pressure he puts is really makulit. Last but not the least is the excitement he brings. He can bring the crowd alive, which is essential in all our games.

For the 11th and 12th and 13th men, if Paul Lee can’t get back his speed and angas no fear drives, I really hope Ray Parks and and Kobe Paras can make themselves available. Parks, I need not explain anymore what he can do. He can do the PG, SG, SF positions w/ ease. Paras, let this be his training ground to get tougher. This will make him more marketable and will improve his game by leaps and bounds since this will educate him about “team ball” and maximize his strengths. 13th position, I’m not a fan (at all), but I think he’s proven his worth. He does a lot of intangibles and his high vertical leap compensates for his lack of height. I’m talking about Arwind Santos.

Almazan, is just too thin and has no offense. On defense, players who approximate his size are tougher and stronger than him.

Sanggalang is guardable and is too finesse. Kelangan ng Philippines pag big man medyo larong buko at kaya lumaban sa loob. He needs strengthening.

Tenorio, Chan and Reyes – They’re not the same players as they used to.

Ganuelas and Troy Rosario need more seasoning. Keifer, may not even turn as expected when he plays in the PBA, overly-hyped.
