  1. Mark says:

I respect the selection of Smart Gilas 2. All of them are professionals and there is no questions about it. But we are competing in an international rules. Pretty much different to what they used to do. With all due respect to them, suggest ko lang po, we don’t need that much point guards in our line up. At least maximum of 3 at mejo may height. Ung pwedeng sumabay kay Daghles at sa iba pang malalaking guards and the person fits for that..Mike Cortez or Sol Mercado. We need big men that can also shoot from outside and some wing men. I think we need the services of Chris Lutz, Jay Washington and we can include Alain Maliksi as well. We also need some streak shooter like Jeff Chan, Dondon Hontiveros. Lastly, we really need a big man to shadow the inside..Marcus Douthit should be there and Japeth Aguilar. We might include Fajardo and Greg Slaughter for some ceiling as well. Salamat po…

  2. For me the most competitive line up of Smart Gilas 2:
Mc Gee, Douthit, David, Lassiter, Lutz, Castro, Chan, Fonacer, Alapag, Norwood, Deocampo,Toss, Yap, Aguilar, Casio

  3. Locous says:

Pang PBA lang si James Yap, inconsistent pa.

  4. Willy says:

    Dear.

I agree EMAIL ni Mark,What we need big man that can shoot from inside in outside.Bata at masigasig masipag.sa nikitra ko forward dapat malaki.
Piont gurd dapat at least 3.

Hope na makuha na ng Pinas ito.

    Salamat

For me the best line up for smart gilas…
alapag, casio, castro, david, jay-wash, k. williams, norwood, aguilar, cagioua, fonacier or chan, devance or pingris, douthit or javale mc gee…..

sana baguhin ng smart gilas management yung line up nila…..we need scorer at the same time defender…..

  6. Roan says:

    Point Guard:
Jimmy Alapag – A true point guard who can set plays for his team-mate.
Gabe Norwood – If we need a height for a point guard.
Jason Castro – who can slash the paint to create space for his team-mate.
Willie Miller – A mix of castro and alapag.
(optional) Ryan Reyes – defense oriented guard, but needs to learn the point guard position.

    Shooting Guard:
James Yap – shooting is what he does best.
Gary David – slasher and finally a shooter, but needs to learn the art of passing.
Dondon Hontiveros – catch and shoot guard, one of the best defensive player for his position.
(optional) Jeff Chan – His shot from outside will be a big help for the team.

    Small Forward:
Jay Washington – Athletic and have the touch from outside, which a small forward must have.
Joe Devance – like jay wash, devance have the touch from outside, and a 6’7 that can handle the ball
Japeth Aguilar – Why force japeth to play the power forward and center position? his skills will be maximize if he is playing the 3 spot. but needs to develop his shooting from perimeter and the arc.
(optional) Kelly Williams – same with japeth he is best suit for SF position, he is optional because of his inconsistency and he always get the nerves during clutch games, especially international games.
(optional) Danny Seigle – If he still have the legs to play.

    Power Forward:
Ranidel De Ocampo – has the post moves and a shot from perimeter, and a drop pass that a power forward must have.
Sonny Thoss – can play the power forward and center position, but with his height of 6’7, he can not match the the center opponent, best thing is to send him to play the 4 spot.
Kerby Raymundo – same with Ranidel De Ocampo.

    Center:
Marcus Douthit or Javale Mcgee – whoever is available, center with the height against other opponents.
Rafi Reavis – A born center that can play defense, but needs to develop his scoring skills and his body against bulky opponent.
Yancy De Ocampo – height with an outside shot, but needs to develop his defensive skills and athleticism.
(optional) Asi Taulava – If he still have the legs to play
(optional) Greg Slaughter – A 7 footer that is not naturalized, But still needs so many things to develop.

    Coaching Staff:
Tim cone – triangle offense his a best tool for international games
Franz Pumaren / Aric Del Rosario / Norman black – succesful coaches in amateur rules in collegiate leagues which almost the same with FIBA rules.
Rajko Toroman – The man which is exposed in international leagues.
Yeng Guaio – The coach that is a player improver/developer.
Chot Reyes – Coach with so many critics, but still we must admit chot is a coach that knows how to handle a lots of stars in his team.

I hope this comment can give an idea for the smart gilas creator.
This will increase our chance for international games.

  7. Damn! says:

Why are smc players not willing to join the NT?

  8. etg says:

Main problem ng Gilas 1 is yung height. Kulang tayo sa ilalim at sa ibabaw. Check nyo yung line-up ngyn ng china team sa olympic…6’7″ yung average height….para maging competetive tayo…let’s improve this item.

    Suggestion:

    C – Douthit/McGee, Thoss, Slaugter – ave: 6’9″
F- Aguilar, Willams, Pingris, De Ocampo – ave: 6’7″
    G – Norwood,David,Yap,Lassiter, Fonacier,Chan ave: 6’2″
    – mas bigger line-up ito
    – Norwood at Lassiter mga PG na kaya mag penetrate sa ilalim at option to drop pass sa SF tulad nila Yap,Fonacier, David at Chan (pure shooter)

Combination : C, PF, SF, SG, PG
    1. McGee/Douthit, Williams, De Ocampo, Yap/Fonacier, Norwood
    2. Thoss, Pingris, Aguilar, David/Chan, Lassiter
