Why Chot Reyes should be retained as Gilas Pilipinas Coach?

Gilas Pilipinas Coach Chot Reyes

We all have been watching and reading comments by many so called experts calling on the resignation of Gilas Pilipinas Head Coach Chot Reyes.

We would like to hear the side of others who want to retain Chot Reyes as Gilas Pilipinas Coach. Why should he be retained as Gilas Pilipinas Coach?

A comment that we read is the experience by Chot Reyes in both the FIBA World Cup and Asian Games will be a great help in future tournaments as long as he learned something from it. Another issue is if we will have a new Head Coach, the players will need to learn a new system again and we do not know if that system will work against our opponents in Asia and the World.

Hindi magaling mag motivate ng player si Coach Chot, and he is not wise in last minute play.

Chot Reyes should be replaced as head coach of the Team Gilas. He should do the noble act of resigning because he always give heartaches to the
basketball loving Philippines. There are more brilliant coaches in the outside waiting to be tapped to handle the program which the Samahang Basketball ng Philippines initiated not Chot Reyes as some have mentioned. In international competition, a Coach should realized that its a big Man’s world so why not utilized big players like Fajardo, Aguilar and Slaughter and other big men to form part of our future team to represent our country. Have we not observed the Chinese? They sent their young and tall players to international competition not by going to get the title but by exposing them early so that by the next tournament their players are already ripe because of experience. That should also be the case for the Philippines. We have enough talents waiting to be polished for future competition but this could only happened if our government has a clear-cut policy on Sports program.

Why i think Gilas should have a new coach

    1. Results are what matters most – You say coach Chot is needed to be kept to continue the program. But why continue a program that only achieves mediocre results? A perfect program wins games consistently, and shows signs of domination. The current program clearly doesn’t show it. Some changes must be done.

    2. Establish a winning culture – Why are coaches often replaced in the NBA? These are best in the business. That’s because a winning culture takes accountability seriously. A winning culture is cutthroat. If you don’t deliver results, you get replaced soon. No blame game. No sugarcoating. Filipinos are loyal and forgiving, the most successful basketball programs are not.

    3. The opinion of the fans matter – We are a basketball crazy country. Like what Mon Fernandez said, hindi tanga ang mga fans. They know something is off with the team. Coach Chot is a proven coach, but the fans have seen that he may not be the best man for the job. We need a fresh face.
