After winning the Gold Medal in the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou China, Tim Cone was officially appointed as Gilas Pilipinas Head Coach as announced today, January 29 by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas or SBP.
Gilas Pilipinas will play in the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament from July 2 to 7 for a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Gilas Pilipinas captured the Gold Medal in the 2023 Asian Games as they beat Jordan, 70-60 in the finals.

With a ragtag group assembled just weeks ago and last-minute insertions that doomed Gilas’ already humble expectations, the squad wrested the 19th Asian Games men’s basketball gold via a 70-60 decision over upstart powerhouse Jordan on Friday at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center in China.

Since 1951, our Philippine National Basketball Teams were able to take home the Gold Medal 5 times, in the 1st four Asian Games (1951, 1954, 1958, 1962) and in 2023. In between that, the closest we had was a Silver Medal in 1990, then Bronze medals in 1986 and in 1998 where Tim Cone was the head coach of our Philippine Centennial Team and also the coach of Gilas Pilipinas in 2023.

The win setup a rematch against Jordan for the Gold Medal tomorrow, October 6, 8pm at the 2023 Asian Games.
